A Colloquium of Collaborators

Anita Pava – Monday, July 25, 2016

Pictured above: Peta Heffernan of Liminal Studios with her presentation 'Paving the way to success'.

The staff at Stream Art Design participated in the second annual ‘Women in Design’ Colloquium held inside the Design Tasmania centre’s divine architectural walls, in Launceston Tasmania.

We were spoilt with speakers from all around Australia, covering design topics from curation, journalism, architecture, furniture and jewellery design, ceramics and costume design. This years theme was ‘collaboration’ and it inspired our speakers presentations and set the tone of the weekend.

We were entertained and inspired over the three days, with a mix of design, political, environmental and education discussed with passion. We were also very well fed with delicious gourmet cuisine from Longford caterers Hubert and Dan, who I highly recommend.

"The weekend was a fabulous opportunity for personal and professional development. It was really nice simply to spend time with like minded people and be inspired by a range of different individuals from a broad spectrum of design orientations. The one thing I took away was a notion of ‘liquid ground’, that the world is always evolving and changing around/beneath us. We have to move with it!" – Kate

"What an experience! Women in Design Colloquium 2016 was a fantastic opportunity to absorb the atmosphere of this creative collective of women and their accomplishments. The Design venue was lovely and the company of other creatives, stimulating. I am so pleased I was able to be a participant." – Carleen

On a personal note, it was wonderful to meet with other women in different creative industries, and converse about their creativity and success in business, admin responsibilities, aspirations and inspirations. Dr Helen Norrie was an inspiration of note and guest author of the @_Parlour Instagram page and she has shared some recommended reading that combines business and creative industries. Check out for her book list.

In summary, I feel delighted and grateful that a wonderful event was organised to support our Australian female designers of many mediums, and we all look forward to the 2017 program… visit if you would like more information.
